Born in Varisia in the city of Riddleport an indeterminate time ago, This One’s actual name is less important than his calling. He lost his parents at a young age… which is not to say that they’re dead. He literally lost track of his parents. This One was taken in by an old harrower, also with no name, also known only as This One.
This One (the elder) schooled This One (the younger) in the ways of the Harrow, imbuing in the child the stories of the elder man’s time spent of the Storval Plateau learning the shamanistic ways of the Shoanti tribes, as well as the ancient language of the Thassalonians that came before.
Upon the unfortunate death of the elder, the younger took his mantle, his cards, and a sack of fine silks and set off to Korvosa to ply his trade, where he has lived and worked for at least twenty years. Where he learned his courtesan craft from is anyone’s guess, but he worships Calistra. That probably has something to do with it.
